Week 01: Overview of the course & Introduction to Gentrification
- Discussion: Students will discuss their prior knowledge of gentrification and any experiences they have had with gentrification in their own communities

- Short overview of MAXQDA
- Term Project: Students will be given information about their term project
* Students will be presenting their works in the last 4 weeks of the course

Week 02: Introduction to  Coding & MAXQDA 
- Tutorial: Introduction to MAXQDA (layout, basic tools, how to code a data, how to use retrieved segments window


Week 03: Gentrification Basics I (lecture)
- Lecture: Definition and history of gentrification

Week 04: Gentrification Basics II (lecture)

- evolution of the concept of gentrification / changing meaning of the concept of gentrification

Week 05: Evolution of the concept of Gentrification and Displacement (lecture)

Week 06: Displacement I (seminar)
- Seminar : discussion on the articles presented by students (presentation of 6 articles by 6 students)
Assignment 01: code min 3 articles on displacement pressure or other types of indirect displacement by using MAXQDA. Have at least 10 different codes and 20 retrieved segments in your MAXQDA file.

Week 07: Displacement II (seminar)
- Seminar : discussion on the articles presented by students (presentation of 6 articles by 6 students)
- Discussion on the preliminary findings of the term project

- Discussion on the findings of assignment 01

Week 08: Types of Gentrification I - Rural gentrification and State-led Gentrification (seminar)
- Seminar : discussion on the articles presented by students (presentation of 6 articles by 6 students)
- Discussion on the preliminary findings of the term project
Assignment 02: code three articles on studentification using MAXQDA (sub-themes will be given)

Week 09: Types of Gentrification II - Studentification and Touristification (seminar)
- Seminar : discussion on the articles presented by students (presentation of 6 articles by 6 students)

Dönem Ödevi

Soylulaşma ve Kent dersi dönem ödevi 2021 Bahar: 

Ödev: X Dergisinde gentrification ve/ya displacement üzerine yayınlanmış son 11 makale üzerine bir review yazma (ve öncesinde bunun sunuşunu yapma)

Kısa Özet: Size bir dergi ismi verilecek en alttaki dergi listesinden. Bu dergide gentrification ve displacement üzerine yazılan son 11 makale üzerinde çalışacaksınız (en son sayıdan başlayarak, önceki sayılara doğru tarayacaksınız). Sonra bu 11 makale üzerine max 2000 kelimelik bir Review ya da Response benzeri bir paper yazacaksınız. Paper öncesinde yaptığınız çalışmayı sınıfta sunacaksınız.

Ayrıntılı açıklama: 

1. Book ya da Article Review nasıl yazılır? + Response paper nasıl yazılır? Bu konular özelinde araştırmaya başlayabilirsiniz. 

2. İlk paragraf = bir overview paragrafı… burada bu 11 makaleye dair sayısal bir analize yer vermenizi bekliyorum. Şöyle: 11 tane makale var. Bunları farklı şekillerde gruplandırmak mümkün olabilir (konu/kavram, coğrafya, metod gibi). Dolayısıyla 11 makale var ama aslında A, B ve C (belki D) diye 4 grup altında toplanabilir bu makaleler. Örneğin A grubunda 3, B’de 4, C’de 4 makale olabilir. 

3. Sonrasında makalede nasıl bir yol izleyeceğinizi söylüyorsunuz. Kabaca iki yol izleyebilirsiniz. i)  her gruptan (A, B, C, D)) birer makale seçersiniz, toplamda 3 ya da 4 makaleyi incelersiniz ii) bir grup seçersiniz ve o gruptaki 3 ya da 4 makaleyi incelersiniz. Tercihinizi net bir şekilde ifade edin

4. Review / Response asıl bundan sonra başlayacak. Hangi yolu seçerseniz seçin, yapacağınız şeyin özü bu makaleleri birbirleriyle ve başka şeylerle ilişkilendirerek bir kompozisyon yazmak. Başka şeyler içine bir çok şey girebilir: türkiye örnekleri/deneyimleri, gentrification kavramları, gentrification dışı kavramlar, ve başka bir sürü şey (izlediğiniz bir film, okuduğunuz bir kitap, başınızdan geçen ya da bildiğiniz bir deneyim vs.)

5. Son olarak bir concluding paragraf ile yazınızı bitiriyorsunuz.
